June Shoes of the Month

Red used to be the one colour that I couldn't stand. It's odd because it is also the one colour that my mother kept on begging me to wear back in the day - telling me it looked so good on me.
I never agreed.

I can't really describe it. To me, red is just such a harsh and bold colour and I tend to lean more towards earthy shades. Browns, greens, oranges and of course I love my black and whites.

Lately though, red has started to spark a bit more of an interest in me.

They say that if you put a beautiful woman in a white dress and send her strutting down the street, she'll not turn nearly as many heads as if you put the same beautiful woman in a red dress and walked her down the same street.

Red is striking. It oozes self-confidence and sex appeal. Which, as a singleton of today's world.. you need, right?

Today I am wearing these sparkly pumps. I'm also wearing a red button up shirt. Who would have guessed?
I love absolutely everything about these new pumps of mine. The bow. The sparkle. Even the colour.
It isn't a bright red - I'd say it is leaning more towards the maroon side, which is one of my favoruite colours.
It's deep and it's dark and over all the style is completely me.

These shoes are available at Mr. Price for an absolute bargain of under R 100.00 in South Africa.

As many of my regular readers know by now, I am trying to grow my shoe collection by buying one pair of shoes every month - but, at the end of the day, I'm always happier barefoot... especially now with my new tattoo.

Have a fabulous week ahead stunning people.

I may go a bit quiet over the next while or so. I have a fair bit on my plate. I'm just about to finish my university degree and qualify as a journalist - finally! I'm also flying through writing my second novel, which I'm dedicating every waking and breathing second to. On top of all that, two of my dearest friends will be leaving little old Knysna this week... for good. It's going to be painful to bid them farwell. Goodbyes are never easy.

There's one quote that I'm trying to keep in mind here:

"New beginnings are often disguised as painful endings."

I'm very happy for them to be spreading their wings and venturing out into the world and at the end of the day, it doesn't matter how far apart you are from your loved ones, true friendships never die.

Shoes of the Month | May

I know.

I vowed to never again buy from a cheap store....

Fail.

This months pair of new shoes comes from none other than Mr. Price (for you overseas readers, think of Mr. Price like Primarks).

I will never learn.

These shoes really caught my eye though and I couldn't say no. I'll probably only be able to wear them once a month to keep them lasting - and commit myself to only wearing them when I'd spend the majority of my time off my feet anyway...... what a waste.

OK - enough of the negative. Let me tell you WHY I chose these shoes (R 200.00) above something else... Well..

a) I thought that I was going to have no salary in June so I had to buy cheap shoes if I wanted to keep up my Shoes of the Month posts! (But then it dawned on me... oh God, how am I going to be able to afford the wine!?!? So I am not moving just yet. I couldn't. In all seriousness, I really just couldn't.)

b) I loved the beige color

c) They felt really comfortable

d) I love that look of merging the shoe and the heel into the same material

e) You can't deny it... they are pretty stylish and perfect for winter!

I love them.

Enough said... and my shoe collection is growing beeeeeautifully! I have same great fashion posts coming up showing how I have paired these boots with work attire.. so stay tuned.

March Shopping Haul!

There's nothing quite like a little bit of a shopping splurge after pay day is there? I'm not exactly what you would call a shopaholic but every now and then I do like to spoil myself with a little something. This month - retail therapy was needed and so these were my little finds!

These adorable rose-gold rings came in a little pack that also had necklaces and earrings in it. I just loved the bird - I couldn't leave the store without it!

They are from Mr. Price at an absolute bargain of a price: R49.99

I then bought two dresses, both of which I have already taken out for nights out on the town.

The floor length black and white striped dress in my absolute favorite. It is so figure hugging and versatile, you could wear it anywhere. I also don't have many floor length dresses so when I saw this one, I just fell in love.
You can grab this dress from Mr. Price (like the rings) for a steal of a price too.. It was under R 100.00

The white half sleeved dress with black swirly writing is also extremely figure hugging and shows off my legs. This is definitely one I'd wear for wintery cocktail parties. I already wore it out to my mum's 50th birthday dinner which was held at a very la-dee-da restaurant.
This dress is from a store where I do often drool over their dresses: Legit.
It was R149.99 as far as I can remember.

I got two novels from the secondhand book store. If possible, I always try to only buy secondhand books because I adore the fact that someone else has read it before me. I especially love it if you find little marks, comments or even letters in the pages. It gives a book history and character.

I got The Mistress by Martine McCutcheon, who is an author that I have never heard of before. I bought this book for inspiration as my second novel is about falling in love with a married man and how that planned out. I haven't even researched previous book reviews on it so who knows... I hope it is good though as it really grabbed my attention.

The second novel I bought was a hardback copy of The Brightest Star in the Sky by Marian Keyes. Marian Keyes is infinite. I adore her writing. Whenever I feel like a good old girly read I always start to crave her words. I find them quick and easy reads, extremely enjoyable and just so easy to get lost in as a female wanting an escape route from the calamity of my life for a while.

You know what this means right?? Some new book reviews will be coming up!

For my new Shoes of the Month post, I bought these pair of blue wedges. I loved the color first and foremost of these shoes, closely followed by the comfort I found in them unlike heels that usually leave in in agony halfway through the day.

Lastly, I did a little bit of shopping for my home... or should I say future home? Hint hint!

I don't have much space in my room right now as I am residing back with the rentals until I take the plunge and move out of Knysna - but that hasn't stopped me from falling in love with a few certain things in home decor shops and refusing to leave without them!
With that being said, I have a huge obsession with candles. I think candles add such a warm atmosphere to a house (they also smell divine) and these are the one's I picked up in Mr. Price Home this month:
I love these sort of things. I used to have them dangling all over my cottage. They are just so cute and pretty to look at. Place a little tea-light candle inside the heart and let it light your room up with pretty scattered amber light.

I also loved this one because it was different. I love the fact that it is silver and would pretty much match anything, anywhere! It also smells like really soft vanilla.
This is the one I fell head over heels in love with. It's a big white, heavy pot with palm wax from Malaysia inside. It burns for 50 hours and I loved the heart on the side of the pot!

I absolutely love all of my new little goodies - the reason that I am doing this post now though is because I definitely can't afford anything else this month!!! I think I went slightly overboard... but I was sad and when a woman is sad, retail therapy really does help.

Have you bought any new things this month??

Outfit of the Day

Last night I had a bit of a night out on the town. To mark the occasion, I decided to haul out my ivory colored lace Mr. Price Dress which was R99.00
I paired it with six gorgeous rings.
On my right hand I had the turquoise stone and the peace symbol rings from Mr. Price while the chunky black stone ring is a find from Primarks a few years back.
On my left hand (pictures again are taken from that of a Blackberry so I do apologize for the terrible quality,) I had a turquoise stone ring I got from Metallic Mermaid, a beautiful eternity silver ring from American Swiss and my moms old Peace ring I found covered in clay one morning whilst routing through her things.

I let the nerd in me come out as the evening progressed by putting on my retro specs from Markham's which is actually a man's store but I really like some of their accessories and hats in stock at the moment.
My Audrey Hepburn hat also had a night out and got A LOT of attention once we hit the clubs. This hat is also from Mr. Price.

Some guy in the club actually came up to me and told me that he has now dubbed me the new retro kid in town. What an honor!

Hope you are all having a fantastic weekend bloggers - take lots of snaps of what you did and send me the links! Here's a few of my own snaps from last night:
