Ghost Story

I know that writing a post like this could cause quite a bit of havoc or unsettlement - but something happened to me last night that was honestly too freaky to not share with you all.

I was sitting on my bedroom floor upstairs, having just gotten out of the bath. The house was quiet and the clock had just struck 19h30 so it was dark out.

As I sat on the floor typing a message to someone on my phone, I heard a voice whisper my name. It wasn't close to my ear, but it was in the room. It was a male voice, not necessarily threatening, almost just wanting to let me know that it was there? It was nothing more than a gentle whisper - but it was enough to make all of the blood drain from my face and dart down the stairs so fast that I almost tripped. It petrified me.

I am not one to believe in that sort of nonesense and I have never had any sort of experience with the 'spirit world,' but many in my family have. I always thought if I carried on saying that I didn't believe in it that it would block it out... I always loved a good horror film or listening to other peoples ghostly encounters but that didn't mean that I really believed them.

I am in two minds about what I heard last night. At one end, I know without a shadow of a doubt that I heard a male voice whisper my name. On the other, I'd still like to say that I don't believe in that sort of stuff!

The weird thing is this....

My dad has a number of illnesses. He is the sort of person that, like me, doesn't believe in that sort of thing.
When we moved into the house we are in now, our dog would often just start snarling and barking and literally freaking out at nothing. She'd see something that we didn't.
Suddenly, my dad said that he saw a man in the house. A ghost.
It was when my dad weighed a shocking 49kg's and was given just a number of days to live. He said that the ghost had died of my dads disease and basically warned him to start living differently or he would die of the disease too.
I KNOW how crazy that sounds - and coming from my dad, even more so!
Yet, last night when I told them about it they could see how much it had spooked me and they did their best to calm me down. My dad mentioned that 'the man' had saved his life (in his eyes anyway...) and therefore he wasn't a 'bad' spirit.
Either which way I refused to go back upstairs - I mean, it was my first ever encounter with something like this and it literally nearly gave me a heartattack. My heart was thundering in my chest.
My mum has also both seen and heard this spirit in the house on a number of occasions - it has left me feeling extremely uncomfortable in the house.

Have you ever had an encounter with the supernatural?? What was your experience? If not - then what are your thoughts on the subject?

    1. Wow that must be so strange for you to smell it - spooky but I guess in a way it is nice to know that your dad is still there watching over you all and sending you little reminders of him from time to time xxx

  3. Oh my God, it's sounds totally unbelievable! I mean, while I was reading it I was picturing it in my head and it was just like a horror film; poor you! Hope 'this man' isn't a bad 'person' as your dad told you but if it would happen to me, I would be still freaking out and probably in the hospital because of a anxiety attack, heart attack or any other attack!
Anyways, it sounds creepy yet interesting; I don't want to believe in this stuff but sadly I kinda do. Also, I believe that if something happen is because a reason and probably 'this man' is there trying to tell you something. Now I'm feeling really weird. I really want you to be in peace also I want this to be clear, keep in touch with the news, please!

  4. Wow, thats crazy. I have had encounters with family members once they passed away, which is more spiritual, but not with an unknown spirit. I could see how this would be frightening. I'm sorry Jade, it's awful to not feel comfortable in your own home.

    1. It must be extremely unnerving to have any sort of encounter, family or not... but perhaps comforting too knowing that your family is reaching out to you??

      Thank you honey x

  6. My thoughts on the subject are that there are most definitely spirits in this world. I think that you heard your name and that you responded in a totally normal way. It is hard to imagine some stories are true or not but.. in this case and even your dad's; I believe.

I've had some experiences. Last night, Rob and I were brushing our teeth and we heard the sound of a bike bell. Ring ring! We both looked at each other, checked our cell phones, our lap top and our tablets beside our sides of the bed. Nothing.. no reason for it. Just weird.
A few weeks back, Rob was going to check on Alina in the morning. We have a bible standing up by her baptism candle.. Rob heard a big bang and behind him was her bible in the middle of the floor... face up. His grandparents are both passed but they were very avid Roman Catholic Church goers and would feel very strongly about Alina being baptized. Many of his Nonno's brothers and sisters told us that we better take Alina to church now that she's baptized. (We haven't..) Soooo.. my take from that little encounter is that we better get our butts to church on Easter Sunday... I don't think the message could be any clearer. I just can't figure out the bike bell??

Your encounter is much more terrifying but maybe take comfort in the fact that this spirit isn't there to hurt you.. It's just there. (Yeah, right.. easy for me to say.. I know.)

  8. Omg that sounds really scary!!! I'm glad that I have never witnessed something like that but good that it saved your dad's life!! My sister often sees "ghosts". She swore that one was sitting on my bed while I was sleeping.

  9. Wow, that sounds really spooky. I've never had an experience like this but I often think it's quite small-minded of us to think that there's nothing more than just us on this Earth! Who knows? BTW, love the look of your blog and looks like i'm your 100th Bloglovin follower :) Congrats! Danielle x

  10. I believe you! I've never believed in ghosts but last year I was renting an older home and it gave me the creeps. Once I was doing laundry at home by myself, I took the laundry out of the dryer walked through the kitchen and put the laundry away in the bedroom. When I walked back into the kitchen, every single kitchen cabinet was wide open, even the broken drawers were hanging by the hinges, and the ones that I could reach were open as well. I got out of there as fast as I could.

  14. Jade, I totally believe in supernatural experiences. I've had several of them. I've not seen a ghost, but I've also heard my name called (actually, it was my grandmother's voice that cut into a radio broadcast--said my name clear as a bell as I was driving down the road). I've also had several dreams that were of a supernatural nature, too. This is a subject matter I could easily talk about for hours and days... Hang in. I know it's scary having these experiences, but I've found it gets less so over time. Hugs, T.

  16. My Dad passed away about 6 months ago. Several times since his passing my two-year old daughter has said, "shhhh listen." We asked her what she hears and she says, "It's Papa or Grandpa." (both my father-in-law and Dad have passed away). The first time we ever showed a picture of my father-in-law (he passed away 16 years ago) to my daughter she immediately said, "awww its papa" and got a big smile on her face. We never once called him and how she knew who he was without telling her is a little mind blowing.
